Andrew Barton wins 'Ultimate Hairdresser' title at the Hair Magazine Awards 2009
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be Hair magazine’s Ultimate Hairdresser. It is a complete honour.
The Hair magazine awards are just fantastic, they celebrate all that’s great about hairdressing from salon and consumer products to salons, retailers to hairdressers and to be crowned their Ultimate Hairdresser is just amazing. I would like to thank Hair for all their support and for this outstanding acknowledgement they have given me.
There was some stiff and worthy competition for this award and I'm over the moon to have been chosen. I am passionate about providing the best hairdressing service to everyone I meet, there’s nothing better than the smile on a client’s face when you’ve given them their dream hair, it’s addictive and I can’t even imagine doing anything else.
Thank you once again.
Andrew reflects on his first Redken Event - TRIBE09
We spent 5 weeks prepping for our first Tribe show, colouring hair and creating wigs. All the wigs were coloured by hand and sewn by hand, there are four heads of hair in each wig so as you can imagine it was a huge effort!
The atmosphere backstage at the show was amazing, the adrenaline was pumping, everyone worked so hard and at such a pace to get everything perfect – It was an amazing combination of creativity and team work.
Before we put the wigs on we filled each model’s hair with glitter, the room was literally a tsunami of glitter. Then it was outfits, nails and amazing make up – that final hour before the show was completely manic, but so worth it – the final looks were totally breathtaking.
My heart was in my mouth as the show started... after all the teams hard work this is where it all became REAL!!! Once the models stepped on stage there was nothing left for us to do.
I loved watching every single moment of the show – from the ribbon trapeze display, to the moment each of the 8 modes made their entrance... each looking so stunning and so different. And it was so dramatic when the girls ripped off their wigs, and threw them into the crowd at the same time a massive glitter bomb went off – it was just a brilliant moment.
When the team came on stage the applause was deafening making all our hard work totally worth it. We loved our first Redken Tribe show – we think it was, it was show-stoppingly spectacular and we’re already thinking of what we can do next year!

Andrew Barton boosts charity fortunes
Andrew Barton didn't need asking twice to use his 10 Years Younger consumer credentials and his own adoption experience to add impact as keynote speaker at a recent fundraising event held by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF). “Supporting the BAAF was an honour and a great chance for me to help just by giving my time. It was the easiest decision I’ve made in a long time!” said Andrew.
The concept of the BAAF 'Bag Ladies' event held at Canary Wharf was to bring together those who both enjoy fashion and, at the same time, want to help this outstanding association to continue their work protecting some of the UK’s most vulnerable children.
A major supporter of BAAF, as well as sharing his own adoption experiences alongside Channel 4’s Head of Diversity Oona King (who herself adopted two children), Andrew put up a hair makeover for the auction. Not surprisingly, the Andrew Barton makeover was the hit of the night being the item receiving the single highest bid of the night... even beating a handbag donated by Victoria Beckham. It was so popular that he offered a second makeover and together both contributed significantly towards the evening’s total funds raised of £10,400.
“Andrew was wonderful, everyone said how touching his speech was and they were all in stitches as he and Oona played auctioneers!” commented Julie Elston of BAAF.
The auction also included a range of gorgeous handbags kindly donated by designers including Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Nichole Farhi. All monies raised will help BAAF continue its work to help find secure, loving families for children who can no longer live at home.

Andrew Barton swapped his hairdryer for his running shoes to support the Alzheimer’s Society running the BUPA 10K for the first time.
He says “I am delighted to help bring attention to Alzheimer's disease. This heartbreaking illness has affected me in so many ways over the years, from grandparents to friend's families and my client's families too. Rather than running a personal best, I hope to be able to chat to people along the route ... even give out a few hair tips on the way! It's an occupational hazard but one I love!”

They have regional and country offices in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, providing services to meet the needs of some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.
Kirsty's Hair goes down a Storm!
GMTV weather girl Kirsty McCabe has worn her hair long and blonde for 10 years.
But just five months after landing the role of weather presenter on the ITV breakfast show, it seems she's already feeling pressure to meet the demands of television.
The 33-year-old decided she desperately needed to update her look – and appear more youthful – and turned to 10 Years Younger haidresser Andrew Barton.
The Scottish star debuted her new look on GMTV this morning and fortunately, was pleased with the results!
She said "I've had pretty much the same hair style for the past 10 years. As we're expecting a nice summer I thought I'd take the plunge... I love it – it’s a lot shorter than I had imagined but I really like it. It’s nothing like I've had before – but it feels really fresh and perfect for a hot summer."
